@Rochester.edu is an initiative at the University to provide everyone consistent email addresses, based on your name (e.g. firstname.lastname@rochester.edu). All University faculty, staff, and students are able to select an email alias that points to their "real" email mailbox.
What @Rochester.edu isn't:
@Rochester.edu is not a separate mailbox. It is simply the email address that people will see and use when you communicate with them via email.
Who can use it?
Any University of Rochester faculty, staff, or student with a University provided email mailbox is eligible to select an @Rochester.edu alias. Once created, anyone in the world can send email to your @Rochester.edu alias and it will be delivered automatically to your email mailbox.

How do I find out what my @Rochester.edu alias is?

Your alias is based on the name that appears in the UR online directory. If your nickname is listed in the directory, it will be used to generate your alias.
What if I have a space in my name?
Spaces are removed from last names. If your name is Michael Van Arsdale, your alias might be Michael.VanArsdale@rochester.edu. The exact address will depend on the number of people who are (or have been) at the University with your name.
What if I have a hyphenated name or an apostrophe in my name?
Hyphens are not a problem and will be included in the @Rochester.edu alias. Apostrophes are retained and will be included in your alias.
What if my name has a suffix?
If your name is John Doe Jr. your email address might be John.DoeJr@rochester.edu. The exact address will depend on the number of people at the University with your name and an @Rochester.edu alias.
How do I decide what address people see in the online directory?
The @Rochester.edu alias is considered your preferred email address for your online directory listing.
How long does it take to change my @Rochester.edu alias?
Changes will be in place within a day.
Why does the @Rochester.edu system generate addresses that I don't want it to?
The @Rochester.edu system is based on information from the Human Resources databases. If your @Rochester.edu information is incorrect, please contact your department's HR/Payroll representative.
